Zimbabwean jailed for selling 'urine' cooking oil

A Zimbabwean man has been jailed for two years after he sold urine to residents in a mining town, claiming it was cooking oil, a state daily reported on Thursday.

The Herald newspaper said Piccard Mudzingwa (28) approached one of the victims at a bus terminus in the southern mining town of Zvishavane, selling bottles containing a liquid he said was cooking oil.

The victim discovered she had been duped when she was preparing supper the following day and reported Mudzingwa to the police.

He was arrested when he attempted to repeat the trick on another woman.

Cooking oil is among commodities that are in short supply in Zimbabwe as the country battles an economic crisis with 165 000% inflation and 80 percent unemployment. -- AFP

61-year-old man accused of raping daughter (4).

A 61-YEAR-OLD Harare man was on Sunday picked up by the police on charges of sexually abusing his four-year-old daughter on several occasions.

Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector James Sabau said the case came to light when one suspicious neighbour, who had been observing the way the child moved for some time, alerted Epworth police.

The informant had first inquired from the child who divulged the alleged abuse.

"The child revealed that the father would allegedly sexually abuse her before they went to sleep," Insp Sabau said.

He, however, said police were by yesterday still waiting for a medical report from Parirenyatwa Hospital to authenticate the alleged rape.

In a related incident, an eight-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her father on several occasions between 2007 and 2008 in Epworth.

The age of the father could not be ascertained by yesterday.

Insp Sabau said the father had sexually abused the child several times since 2007 but the abuse was never reported.

The child told the police that she had informed some of her relatives about her ordeal but none assisted her.

"The case came to light when an anonymous caller alerted the police," he said.

A medical examination has confirmed that the child was subjected to sexual abuse.
