This morning I was watching the e.tv 24 hour news channel on DSTV and they have a program called Inside Out where they talk to all kinds of people from drifferent walks of life.....
They were talking to a guy that has HIV/AIDS...he has been living with it for about 10 years...got it when he was at varsity.....once he found out he had it he went and spoke to all the women he had had sex with and told them to go and get tested.....that I think is so fantastic....
During the cause of the show they were saying that 1000 people a day die of HIV/AIDS and the related illness's in SA and that 5.7 million people have it but only 700 000 actually know they have it.......
Their were also talking about the sexual cleansing cermony after the death of a spouse....
Cleansing after a death is a common practice in African families. Practices vary, but one type of cleansing is raising safety concerns: ku basisa (in Tsonga) or inhlambululo (in Zulu). After losing a spouse one must abstain from sex for a year, after which one is expected to find a man or woman to have sex with for seven consecutive days.
The rules are clear: a condom must not be used. The "cleaner" could be a relative, previous partner or a stranger. And there must be no relationship between the two afterwards.
It is a concern that people are still being "sexually cleansed" despite knowing there is a risk of HIV/Aids.
The use of condoms or testing for HIV before participating in a sexual cleansing ceremony could save a lot of lives. Isn't that what traditional leaders are supposed to do? Protect their communities? Culture cannot be practised in a way that is inconsistent with constitutionally guaranteed rights.
It has scared the kak out of me to realize just how many people have HIV/AIDS with out knowing and they are still really sexually active.....
What do you think about people who are HIV/AIDS positive, not using protection and not telling the people that they are having sex with
that they have the virus......????
Why are men refusing to use protection when they go around ''humping'' any woman......????
The worst one that really upsets me is that women after all the information etc that is available and the amount of deaths that they have to cope with day in a day out will still allow men to have unprotected sex with them because that is what the man wants otherwise he will leave and go get it some where else....which means that there are a lot of women who are perfectly happy to let him give them the death sentence.....a very pleasureable trip all the way to the grave......no second chances....just DEATH......
We as women really have to wake up and realize that we are selling our selves so short and so cheap just so that a man can have his pleasure the way he wants it and bugger the rest.....
We have to come to the realization that being married or living with some one does not protect us from getting the virus as we can not be 101% sure that the person we are with is totally faithful so we have to make conditions in our relantionships now of save sex and regular testing.....maybe only then and only then will be start to stamp out this ''death sentence''.
If we as women stand firm and united and strong against the penis controlled ways of our men of unprotected sex being their God given right .Then we will be well on the way to being able to enjoy our grand kids....
Look at the amount of orphans that Africa is producing......if it carrys on we will be a continent of parentless kids.....
That is all for now good people.....please let us know what you think about this and how you feel in our all new comment box below....
