This is about a young girl that dreamed of being a dancer...she had so many things against her that many did not believe she would make it....read on and see how she made her dream come true......
Zandile Constable.
Zandile is from Gugulethu and she started dancing at the age of 11 years. After her first year of dancing in Gugulethu she got a scholarship through Dance For All to go to Alexander Sinton High School where she became Deputy Head Girl in her matric year in 2004.
Ever since she has been with the company, a lot of beautiful opportunities have arisen, in terms of her appearing in numerous newspapers, magazines, and on television.
The highlight of the publicity was being on the cover of Good Taste magazine. She also traveled to other countries such as France and England. In her years at Dance for All she has choreographed 2 pieces for the DFA Senior Training Program.
Another high point was when she had the opportunity to dance the lead role in Kami in the joint season that her Dance for All Youth Company recently undertook with Cape Town City Ballet.
It was the first time that both companies had collaborated on 2 major ballets: Kami and Tango Nights. Zandile was the A cast principal and performed on opening night to a full house of media and VIP guests- she received excellent reviews.
Life was not easy for Zandile
Her father is a Xhosa and her mother an Afrikaner.
Two months after her birth, her mother, about 18 years old, deserted her family and left her in the care of her father.
Sensing a huge emptiness that needed to be filled, Zandile ran away from home to look for her mother.
She tracked her down and spent two weeks with her. This was the longest uninterrupted period she spent with her, because her mother died soon afterwards of cancer.
When she saw her, she was amazed, she tells me, by her mother’s curly blonde hair.
“Is this my mother?” she thought in wonderment, touching her curls with her fingertips. When Zandile turned eleven she joined Dance for All and that’s when her life changed.
Zandile has a fantastic and bright future ahead of her and we all wish her the very best and may God protect and bless her richly.
